My Name is Earl

NBC's premiere Thursday will be anchored down by Earl at 9PM. The premiere is set for September 21st so look out for that as well as The Office! I'm very excited to get the show back and am curious to see where they take the characters this season.

I hope we get some development of the personalities because you can't have the same storylines over and over.

We have re-runs until April 27 when "BB" airs. In this episode Earl tries to cross off #147: "Shot Gwen Waters with a BB Gun". In order to make up for this Earl tries to re-unite Gwen with her estranged father, which proves to be a difficult task.

This week's re-run is "Barn Burner" and Earl tries to make amends for burning down a barn at a summer camp for "at-risk" youth.

The new NBC comedy "Teachers" launches tonight. I have already seen the pilot, and boy does it SUCK! I was hoping for another NBC hit, but this is certainly no Earl. My prediction: this show will be cancelled in 3 weeks. You can hold me to that. Sigh. It looks like we will have to wait until the Fall comedy pilots come in until we get another good NBC comedy.

The show continues to do well in the Thursday comedy block. The fresh episode brought in a 6.8/10 which was good enough for #5 on the entire night! The repeat lead-in episode scored a 5.5/9 #8 on the night (which isn't bad at all for a repeat). Expect NBC to find a new comedy to fill that spot soon though. So don't get too attached to an hour of Earl on Thursdays.

In a recent move NBC has decided to pull their freshman comedy starring Seth Green and replace it with MNIE repeats. This of course is wonderful news for the show as it gives people who have yet to get hooked a chance to see older episodes. It also lets us die-hard fans re-watch all the old ones. So basically you get an hourlong block of Earl on Thursdays now!

Jason Lee and the rest of the cast were at the annual Museum of Television and Radio 2006 Paley Television Festival last week. Fans who were able to go were treated to 2 never before seen episodes of "My Name is Earl". Greg Garcia (the show's creator) talked about the birth of the show. He sais he had always believed in Karma and one day while on vacation said to himself i'd like to make a comedy about it.

So he wrote it. And in only 1 week he had a script ready to go. Except no networks wanted it for over at YEAR AND A HALF until NBC unearthed it this past year. Garcia goes on to talk about how and why he chose this particular cast, as well as other juicy tidbits about the show. It is a must read!

New episode this Thursday called "Didn't Pay Taxes". Earl realizes that he has been cheating the government all these years by not paying taxes. Earl makes it his mission to pay the government back...but apparently they don't want his money. Regardless, Earl tries some rather "unconventional" payback schemes.

Of course the NBC Winter Olympic Games are still raging on so there are no new episodes of My Name is Earl until March 2nd. :( Horrible I know. Those winter games put me right to sleep. Anyways, the return episode on the 2nd is supposed to be absolutely hilarious, so perhaps it will be worth the wait.

As for show specific news, the last episode pulled in a 20% gain from the previous one. That is GREAT news considering the show had been struggling in that new Thursday spot.

The ratings for the show have fallen some since the move to Thursdays. NBC has assured us that it is "the right move" in their attempt to rekindle the "Must see TV" Thursdays of old. Only time will tell, but I would imagine if the ratings don't pick back up in the next few episodes, we could seem some movement in the schedule.

But of course, don't be worried about a second season, as that is already guaranteed.

Tonight's episode "The Professor" is all new! On his way to return a stolen computer to a professor, Earl knocks over a stop sign in front of an old woman's house. He promises to fix it, but gets sidetracked by the hot professor (guest star Christine Taylor). Earl tries to land a date with this professor but reconsiders when bad thing start happening to him.

Nothing serious, but Jason has the chicken pox and so My Name is Earl production has been shut down. I am assured this will have no effect on the episode airings or total number. Get well Jason!

Adam Goldberg guest stars in this episode. Earl tries to make up for steeling gas from a stranger's car. But when Earl ties, he realizes the man is in need of some serious help. Earl tries to give this man, Philo (Goldberg) reasons to live.

Did everyone see the Golden Globes? Desperate Housewives won for the second year in a row in the Best TV Comedy category. Come on now! Earl is a MUCH funnier show and I honestly feel we got the shaft on this one. Don't get me wrong. Desperate Housewives is funny, but not THAT funny.

New episode is on tomrrow and it is a darn funny one. I've seen it already and it was one of my favs.

I'd love to see some people in the forums to talk about the episode tonight.

In the article linked below from TV GUIDE I found out that this season will see gues appearances from Swingers' Jon Favreau and Zoolander's Christine Taylor, as well as Kevin Smith. The show's producers insist the show will not get to the point of having a new guest star every episode (ahem...like the moribund Will and Grace) but will have a few 'here and there' throughout the season.

Congratulations to Jason Lee and the writers for winning the "People's Choice Award Favorite New Tv Comedy"! This a great award and it was definitely well deserved.

Also note that the show has been nominated for 2 Golden Globes as well.
